How
To Book Gaddgedlar For A Show

Now
you’ve seen the pictures and you’ve read about our show and you’ve decided
you want Gaddgedlar at your event. Before
you contact us, here are some things to consider.
We
have full public liability insurance. All
our weapons are blunted for safety purposes but they still have the potential to
injure people. For full combat
displays involving the entire group, you must be able to provide sufficient
space for the display with a double rope barrier, e-mail
us for more details. For
smaller events (e.g. schools, publicity events) where we only have two or three
fighters we can do combat displays indoors and without a barrier, but we must be
able to ensure a safe distance between combatants and audience.
We
can provide different kinds of shows depending on what you’re after.
We have a “school team” of people who are free during the day.
What better way to bring a history project to life than to have a
medieval knight in armour or an authentic Border Reiver talking to your class?
We can provide between one and three individuals in costume who will give
short talks about their arms and armour and the history of the period that they
are portraying. Normally, this is
followed by a quick combat display, a question and answer session and the chance
for pupils to handle the armour and weapons.
Similarly,
we can provide costumed individuals for publicity events (e.g. we have done a
few book launches). In these
situations we don't often do combat displays, we just stand there and look
medieval. However, if you want a fight, we're always willing to oblige!
If
you'd like a living history camp at your event then we need a static display
area where we can set up the camp. The
camp is fairly big - we have six tents at the time of writing.
The living history display won't be suitable if you have an event based
around one main arena with performers moving in and out of the arena in turn.
To provide the camp plus a combat display, we would need the combat area
mentioned above plus extra space for the camp.
Many
of our members have been involved in TV and film work.
We can supply between 1 and 20 people and a camp of up to 6 fully
equipped tents. There are pictures of all the characters and costumes
throughout this site. Previous
film work includes The Bruce, Rob Roy, Ivanhoe and the Clan Hunter official promotion
video. Previous TV work
includes See You See Me - Castles (BBC Scotland) - Episodes 1,2,3,4 and 5,
History Quest (BBC Knowledge).
Now
the big question - price. A lot of people think that re-enactment groups will turn up
for petrol money and a couple of pints of beer.
And some will. But we're
firm believers that you get what you pay for.
Some groups will give you William Wallace in jogging trousers and
trainers or Robert the Bruce in a kilt. We
have a large and completely authentic camp that no other re-enactment group in
Scotland can match. Each of our
combatant members is highly trained and everyone in the group researches the
history and the lifestyle of the period. All
our costumes, weapons and armour are authentic.
With Gaddgedlar you get a complete medieval experience.
We bring Scottish history to life.
The
best thing to do is to contact us with your requirements.
Don't worry if you've got a budget and you can't spend much - give us a
