The 15th
Century

Gaddgedlar now has the
capacity to put on a small-scale display of 15th Century Weapons and
Armour including a Knight in full Milanese Harness. This period is also
incorporated into our main show.
The Fifteenth Century saw the end of the Medieval period in Scotland and the
rest of Europe. It also saw the development of the full suit of plate harness
and the widespread use of gunpowder weaponry. For Europe it was a bloody century
featuring the climax of the Hundred Years War between England, France and
Scotland and the brutal horror of the “Wars of the Roses” where England went
to war with itself. For Scotland, however, the century is marked by the fact
that of the four kings crowned during it, none of them died peacefully in their
beds. Much of Scotland’s foreign policy of the century was centred around the
“Auld Alliance” a military alliance with France against the mutual enemy:
