The 15th Century

Gaddgedlar now has the capacity to put on a small-scale display of 15th Century Weapons and Armour including a Knight in full Milanese Harness. This period is also incorporated into our main show.

The Fifteenth Century saw the end of the Medieval period in Scotland and the rest of Europe. It also saw the development of the full suit of plate harness and the widespread use of gunpowder weaponry. For Europe it was a bloody century featuring the climax of the Hundred Years War between England, France and Scotland and the brutal horror of the “Wars of the Roses” where England went to war with itself. For Scotland, however, the century is marked by the fact that of the four kings crowned during it, none of them died peacefully in their beds. Much of Scotland’s foreign policy of the century was centred around the “Auld Alliance” a military alliance with France against the mutual enemy: England.
